About The Blog

The list above shows tha last 15 entries. I'll probably change the selection method to a date based system once there are a few more entries. Click an entry title to see it.

This is the blog which used to be on another of my websites, now defunct (www.cobblers.org.uk). The last post was 8 years ago I moved it here without any problems. The editing functions have been brought up to date, so I can now add new entries and upload pictures. The display code (text) has been updated too e.g. the broken links are either removed or fixed.

A web site in minutes

Wordpress LogoWhat is the quickest way to get a web site up and running ?

There are many answers to this question. One tool which is frequently mentioned is Wordpress . So I thought I would give it a go. My Wordpress site no longer exists. I played with it for a few weeks, then decided it was not for me. I did not make any production sites using Worpress. You have to stick with the Party Line - it's not as easy to go "under the hood" as Joomla. And if you are not careful you can introduce so many addons that it becomes quire unresponsive - try this, for example - it takes about 5 seconds after a click before anything happens and I know for sure that it is a Wordpress.site

In a few words....

  • Easy to set up
  • Tricky to move to another server once installed
  • Thousands of plugins / bolt on goodies. Too many really - how do you choose the one you want ?
  • Not easy to produce static pages
  • If not set up correctly can be very slow to respond
